Au Gladis (Gladys) Wallace passed away on Saturday, January 7, 2012 in Abilene. Gladys was born in Scott, Georgia on November 4, 1922 to Dennis E. and Mary L. Oliver. She attended Glynn Academy in Brunswick, Georgia. She married William H. “Bing” Wallace on January 21, 1942 in Barton, Florida. They lived in several states and England while Bing was in the United States Air Force and retired in Abilene, Texas. Her husband passed away on April 5, 1994.

She was also preceded in death by her parents and three brothers: Delmar L. Oliver of Florida, Elton and Shelton Oliver of Savannah, Georgia; also one sister Zelma Powell of Mulberry, Florida; and a very dear grandson John Oliver Wallace of Richmond, Texas.

Survivors include her three sons: William H. Wallace Jr. and wife Donna of Andrews, Texas, Thomas D. Wallace and wife Catherine of Abilene, and Barry G. Wallace and wife Debbie of Richmond, Texas; Five grandchildren: Allison Sowers of Denver, Colorado, Kristin Mathis and husband Nathan of Denton, Texas, Wendi Wallace of Nacogdoches, Texas, Paul Wallace of Richmond, Texas and Kimberly Wallace of Andrews, Texas; One great-granddaughter Chloe of Denton plus several nieces, nephews and cousins of Georgia, Florida and California.

Funeral services will be at St. James United Methodist Church on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. with burial to follow in Elmwood Memorial Park under the direction of North’s Funeral Home.   Visitation will be from 6-7:30 p.m. Tuesday at North’s Memorial Chapel, 242 Orange Street.

In lieu of flowers, donations could be sent to St. James United Methodist Church, 3100 Barrow Street, Abilene, Texas 79605 or the Heart or Cancer Society or McMurry University, in memory of John Oliver Wallace Memorial Scholarship Fund, Box 938, Abilene, Texas 79605.
