Arthur B. Young Jr. 85 died January 18 2007 at the VA Hospital in Big Spring. Funeral services will be Tuesday January 23 2007 at 10:00 a.m at Southwest Park Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Woodard officiating. Burial will be in Rockdale Cemetery under the direction of North's Funeral Home. Visitation will be Monday from 6 - 7:30 pm at North's Memorial Chapel 242 Orange St. Mr. Young was born to Arthur and Daisy Young on June 29 1921 in Denison Texas. Always known as A.B. he was a multi-talented man who could fix build or repair anything. He was a graduate of White House High School and attended San Marcus Academy where he joined the reserves. On February 15 1942 he married Faye Willoughby in Stamford Texas while stationed at the Stamford Flying School of the Army Air Corp. He took Faye on her first upside-down plane ride. A. B. worked for Schlumberger for many years then owned his own rental business. He also worked at Thornton's Department Store as a buyer of furniture-appliance until his retirement. He was a charter member of Portland Avenue Baptist Church which later became Southwest Park Baptist Church. He helped build the present-day building serving as a deacon and in many other capacities. He loved music and even taught himself to play the piano. Before his health began to fail he was active at the Rose Park Senior Citizen Center where he loved to visit friends and play billiards. In 1991 he won the State Gold Medal for the billiards competition at the Texas Senior Games in Arlington and was very proud to receive such an award. A.B. was known for his quick wit and loved to make people laugh. He kept his sense of humor until the end. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 64 years Faye of the home two sons; Richard and wife Sue of Abilene Randy and wife Rose Marie of Azle Texas and daughter Linda Berger of Oklahoma City Oklahoma. Seven grandchildren; Pam Coats Kim Potter Ricky Young Kirk Berger Stefani Berger April Thorns and Jeffrey Young. Thirteen great-grandchildren. He had two special buddies; Smokey and Lucky who adored him. Nephews who will serve as pallbearers are Bruce Ford Ted Ford Rex Ford Howard Thompson Jay Hagar and Jim James. Honorary pallbearers will be the Deacons at Southwest Park Baptist Church. The family would like to thank the wonderful nursing staff and Chaplain at the Hendrick Hospice Center for their special and loving care in his final days.
