Loretta "Meme" Garrett lived a beautiful and full life of over 100 years, defined by kindness, love, and a gentle spirit that touched everyone she met. Known to all as "Meme," she was truly the sweetest and most caring woman, leaving a lasting impression on all who had the blessing of knowing her. Loretta was born at home near Munday, Texas, to Oran and Grace Shue. She attended school in Eliasville, Texas, and from an early age was grounded in faith, growing up in the Church of Christ. Her faith remained a guiding force throughout her life, and her church family at Saginaw Church of Christ was very dear to her heart. She met the love of her life, Alton Garrett, and they were united in marriage on November 29, 1942. Together they built a life centered on love, faith, and family, sharing 72 wonderful years of marriage before his passing in 2014. Loretta was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She worked alongside her husband in their butane business and later worked in grocery retail as an office manager. No matter where she was-whether with family, visiting with her helpful neighbors and mailman, or alongside her housekeeper and yard man-she brought warmth, kindness, and a caring spirit to those around her. She was preceded in death by her parents, Oran and Grace, her sister, Eileen, her beloved husband Alton, Sr., her two daughters, Gail and Jerry and son-in-law Gary. She leaves behind a loving family who will cherish her memory always: one son, Alton, Jr.(Rene), daughter Ramona(Robert), daughter Rhnea(Glenn), one son-in-law Woody, Sr, 25 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Meme's life was a true reflection of love and devotion. She had a way of making everyone feel special, offering a kind word, a warm smile, and a heart full of compassion. Her legacy of love will live on through the generations she so deeply cherished. Her life was a blessing, her memory a treasure, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Graveside service will be held Saturday April 11, 2026 at 11:15am at the Abilene City Cemetery. Visitation will be held Saturday from 9am-11am at North's Funeral Home.
