Obituary

Alma Lee Mathews Keele of Abilene passed away after a short illness on May 14 2013. The family will receive friends at North's Funeral Home 242 Orange Street on Friday May 17 th from 5 – 7 p.m. Celebration of life for Alma starts at 10 a.m. Saturday May 18 th at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints located at 3325 North 12 th Street Abilene Texas. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park under the direction of North's Funeral Home. Alma was born August 7 1932 in San Angelo Texas to Louis and Margaret Mathews. She was a cherished wife and mother who was an accomplished homemaker seamstress and a very talented artist and gourmet cook. She was a strong active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints holding many offices over the years in the women's Relief society. She was also a lifelong member of the Pythian Sisters taking on many leadership roles along with being an active member of the TEA club. She managed all these activities many years while at the same time taking care of all her children one of which was severely disabled. She did all of this even when her husband of fifty-nine years was overseas in the service of our country. Alma was preceded in death by her parents Louis and Margaret Mathews brother James Mathews son Dale Keele and a daughter Patricia Lee Keele. She leaves behind her beloved husband Melvin H. Keele; sons Hal Don Twyford of San Angelo and Melvin V. Keele of Shallowater; daughters Lova Keele-Diggs and spouse Bruce Diggs of Shallowater Margaret Gibson and spouse Frank Gibson of Henderson Nevada Lu Keele-Soules of Shallowater eight grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. She also left behind a sister Betty Jean McClain of San Angelo and a brother Ralph Mathews of San Angelo. Online condolences can be made at www.northsfuneralhome.com.
