Anita Jones-Stevenson, age 68 went home to the Lord on Monday, January 17, 2022, after a prolonged illness. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 26, 2022, from 6pm to 8pm at North's Funeral Home, 242 Orange St., Abilene. Funeral services will at 12 noon on Thursday, January 27, at Mt. Zion First Baptist Church, 520 Stafford St., Abilene with Rev. Demotis Sherman, Jr officiating. Burial will follow at Abilene City Cemetery. Anita was born on February 26, 1953, in Denver, Colorado to Alfred and Billie McChristian. She was the only child of an only child but enjoyed her family, Darryl, Merduice, Collette, Kemo and Marcus that came with her union in marriage to Vanoy Oscar Stevenson on September 24, 1988. Anita graduated from Dorsey High School in Los Angeles, California and received her BS degree in Behavioral Science from Hardin Simmons University in Abilene. She was employed as a Child Protective Services Case Manager, Housing Authority Instructor for first time home buyers and was a Certified Private Investigator for over 20 years. After relocating from California, Anita joined the Mount Zion First Baptist Church in Abilene where she served as the church secretary. She served on several boards within the Abilene community including Habitat for Humanity and was a NAACP lifetime member and a state convention representative. Anita loved fishing and could handle a gun very well, but would not hunt because whatever she killed, she had to eat. She was friends to all and never met a person she didn't like. Anita mentored many youths and young ladies in the community and loved what she did 100%. Anita leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Vanoy O.
