A.T. "Babe" Bynum 90 of Abilene passed away on Monday September 17 2012 at Mesa Springs Nursing Facility. The family will bereceiving friends at a visitation on Friday September 21 2012 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at North's Memorial Chapel 242 Orange Street. Gravesideservices will be Saturday September 22 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Potosi Cemeterywith his grandson Patrick Lloyd officiating under the direction of North'sFuneral Home 242 Orange Street. Babe nickname given to him shortly after he was born by hisbrother Pete was born in Potosi on October 31 1921 to Charlie and Lela Bynum.He was one of six brothers along with Preston Hoyt Pete Calvin and Bill healso had two sisters Ruby and Mamie. Raised during the Great Depression Babelearned the value of hard work and to appreciate what he had at a very earlyage. He continued to work and farm in Potosi until he was called to service inthe United States Army during World War II where he served his country in the88th Infantry Artillery Division on the frontlines in Germany and Italy.He married Patricia Philley on January 4 1947 and they spent 65 yearstogether. Babe and Pat started their lives together in Abilene and then movedto Clyde where they remained for 25 years before returning to theAbilene/Potosi area in 1983. Babe was a savvy and successful businessman having owned and operated ACME Fast Freight Bynum Brothers Storage and hismost successful venture Snap-On Tools where he earned multiple awards forSalesman of the Year. He loved all sports especially girls softball andbasketball and Hardin-Simmons Cowgirls basketball games. He coached Pee Wee andLittle League baseball teams in Clyde and he loved the Clyde Bulldogs AbileneHigh Eagles and the Texas Longhorns. He was a hunter and fisherman and the"Bynum Dove Expeditions" brought family and friends in from all over the state. Babe's biggest love of all though was the love anddevotion he had towards his family and the selflessness he displayed in helpingothers with anything they needed. That love devotion and selflessness will bedeeply missed. He is survived by his wife Pat of Abilene; one daughter Terry Lee Lloyd also of Abilene; one grandson Patrick Bynum Lloyd and wife Robin of Merkel; one great-grandson Bronson Wyatt Lloyd also of Merkel; onesister Mamie Gray of Abilene two sisters-in-law Veda Bynum of Potosi andLouise Bynum of Abilene; several nieces and nephews.
