Barbara Pauline "Polly" Hilbert, 93, of Abilene went to be with her most beloved Jesus on January 21, 2014. Born to Ivison and Mary Boles in Atmore, AL, Polly moved to Abilene with her four children in 1975 and became active in the Highland Church of Christ. In her later years, she began to serve at the Hillcrest Church of Christ. Ms. Polly taught children's Bible classes, wrote numerous cards of encouragement, and always sat in the back of the auditorium on Sundays to greet any visitor in attendance. Her life's mission was to tell as many people about Jesus as possible. A nurse by profession, Polly never missed a moment to share her loving touch with all whom she came in contact. She was a friend to all and dedicated many hours in service to her community in places like the Christian Ministries of Abilene Food Pantry. She liked nothing better than to have people in her home for Sunday lunch to share stories and laughter. Polly found great joy in being with her family and was always ready to create new adventures with them. She was an out-going and compassionate woman with strong convictions in her faith in God. Polly is survived by her four children Rusty and Mark Hilbert, Sharon Rucker, and Beverly Self; grandchildren Mary (Hilbert) Smith, Ben, Sarah, Deborah, and Daniel Hilbert, Whitney (Mann) Davis and Sam Mann, Austin and Anna Rucker, Marina Hilbert; great-grandchildren Luke, Summer, and Adilyn; niece Tonya (Boles) Cope. A celebration service will be held at 4 pm on Sunday, January 26, 2014 at Hillcrest Church of Christ with Terry Brown and Mark Hilbert officiating. A private family burial will follow the next day. The family will be accepting visitors from 5-7 pm on Saturday, January 25, 2014 at North Funeral Home, 242 Orange St, Abilene, TX 79601.
