Longtime Abilene resident June Turner Rehm was born the fifth child into a family of twelve children on June 19 1920 in Bayfield Colorado to Benjamin and Hazel Marie Turner. She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years Paul earlier this year. Surviving June is one brother Walter Turner and wife Joyce of Cortez Colorado and numerous nieces and nephews. June graduated from Durango High School earning her life-saving certification in swimming as well as recognition for academic achievement. June attended the University of New Mexico and received Civil Certification enabling her to hold a civil service job in the Transportation Department at Kirtland Field in Albuquerque New Mexico. June was one of three people at Kirtland Field approved by the FBI to handle and sign for Manhattan Project parts that came through Albuquerque on their way to White Sands NM. June married Paul Edwards Rehm on June 1 1945 in Albuquerque NM. Shortly thereafter she and her husband arrived in Abilene TX where she worked as a certified dental assistant for three years. June was a talented artist specializing in painting china pastels and portraits. She was also an accomplished seamstress who sewed most of her own clothes and some of Paul's. She taught china painting in San Angelo TX where she and Paul resided for ten years. They had great times with friends who shared their enthusiasm for the two step swing polka waltz and square dancing all across West Texas. June and Paul were active in the Abilene Bible Church. The family wishes to acknowledge the exceptional long-term care June received at Windcrest Health Care Center from Director Jay Hobbs and nursing staff Dolores Afton Keeley Donna and others as well as from Sears-Methodist Hospice under Jodi Humecky's care. There will be a graveside service celebrating June's life on Monday January 9 at Elmwood Memorial Park 6750 US 277 Abilene at 2:00 PM arranged by North's Funeral Home.
