Barbara Lee Reynolds Barbara Lee Reynolds, 101, of Abilene, Texas, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 30, 2026, at 11:40 p.m., surrounded by the love of her family. Barbara was born on March 31, 1925, in Lawn, Texas, to William Edward Clayton and Ellen Mae Clayton. She graduated from Abilene High School and later attended Draughon's Business College. As a young woman, Barbara moved to California, where she began her career with the telephone company. During her time in California, she also proudly served as a police officer in Ventura, demonstrating the courage, strength, and servant's heart that would define her life. Barbara later returned to Abilene, where she continued her career with Southwestern Bell. Following the company's merger with AT&T, she remained a dedicated employee until her retirement, completing an impressive 36-year career in the telecommunications industry. On December 31, 1965, she married the love of her life, Donald Lee Reynolds, in Abilene, Texas. Together they shared more than 60 wonderful years of marriage, building a life rooted in faith, family, and lifelong friendships. Barbara was a devoted servant of her community and church. She was currently an active member of Wylie Baptist Church, and previously served as the Director of Senior Adults at Pioneer Drive Baptist Church for eight years. Through her faith, compassion, encouragement, and leadership, she touched countless lives and exemplified a heart for serving others. She was also a dedicated member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Queen Esther Chapter No. 833, for 53 years. Throughout her years of service, Barbara held numerous leadership positions, including Worthy Matron during 1979-1980 and again in 2000-2001. She also served as Deputy Grand Matron during the 1980s and as Grand Representative of Minnesota in 1982. Her unwavering commitment to the organization earned her many Grand Chapter appointments over the years. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, William Edward Clayton and Ellen Mae Clayton; her brother, Samuel Edgar Clayton; and her sisters, Velma Mayfield and Hazel Stewsey. She is survived by her devoted husband, Donald Lee Reynolds; her sons, Richard Merryman and wife Karen, and David Merryman and wife Donna; her sister-in-law, Seneta Sanford; four grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever cherish her memory. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at North's Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at Wylie Baptist Church, with Mike Harkrider officiating. Interment will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery at Abilene. Serving as pallbearers will be Chris Cummings, Wayne Hennington, James Alexander, Kevin Merryman, Randy Davis, and Ray Godley. Honorary Pallbearer: Royce Manning. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Will Shudde, Hendrick Hospice, Kinder Hearts, the wonderful neighbors of Mesa Ridge, and especially James and Donna Alexander, Randy and Carol Davis, and Royce and Peggy Manning. Although they did not all live in the Mesa Ridge neighborhood, these dear friends became like family through years of love, friendship, and unwavering support. Their kindness, generosity, and steadfast presence brought great comfort to Barbara and Donald and will always be remembered with deep gratitude. Barbara's legacy of unwavering faith, a servant's heart, and deep love for her family will continue to inspire all who knew her. Whether serving her community as a police officer, dedicating 36 years to the telecommunications industry, leading within her church and the Order of the Eastern Star, or simply loving those around her with grace and kindness, Barbara left the world better than she found it. Her life was a testament to faith, service, perseverance, and unconditional love. She will be deeply missed, forever cherished, and lovingly remembered by all whose lives she touched.
