Carolyn Wiggins, age 87, went home to her Lord on Wednesday, November 15th, 2023. Visitation will be from 6 pm to 8 pm, Monday, November 20th, at North's Funeral Home, 242 Orange St., Abilene. Funeral services will be at 1pm Tuesday, November 21st at Belmont Baptist Church, 2117 Palm St., Abilene with Bro. Steve Joiner officiating. Burial will follow at Iberis Cemetery.
Carolyn was born on March 30th, 1936, in New Salem, Texas to E.K. and Gladys Beckham. She graduated from Abilene High School in 1954 and went on to receive her bachelor's degree in education from McMurry University, where she played percussion in the McMurry band and her master's degree from Hardin Simmons University. On June 22, 1957, she married the love of her life, William K. Wiggins, and together they raised 2 children, Roger, and Becky. Carolyn was a teacher for 30 years and taught in Buffalo Gap, Hawley, and Abilene, and also worked as bookkeeper for Electronic Test Equipment Center and as the Activities Director for the South Park Senior Citizens Center, retiring in 2009. She was a devoted member of Belmont Baptist Church where she served her church community as a Sunday school teacher, Girls Auxiliary Leader and in the children's music program where she was known as the "Autoharp Lady". Carolyn was a member of the McMurry Alumni Association, Audubon Society and the Iris Society who loved birdwatching, gardening, and volunteering in her community.
She was preceded in death by siblings, Charles Vernon Beckham, Amelia Gail Kent and Dorothy Wray Bing.
Carolyn is survived by her beloved husband of 66 years, William K. Wiggins; children, Becky Wiggins and Roger Wiggins, and grandchildren, Oliver Combs, Kaleb Wiggins and Kyla Wiggins. Words of comfort for the family may be left at www.northsfuneralhome.com.
