Obituary

Doctor Billie Cole "B.C." Roberson 89 long-time resident and Veterinarian of Abilene died January 23 2012. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday in Elmwood Memorial Chapel with Dr. Jessie Fletcher officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Cemetery under the direction of North's Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 5:00 -7:00 p.m. Tuesday in North's Memorial Chapel 242 Orange St. B.C. was born May 13 1922 in Pecos Texas to Louis and Dorothy Roberson. He graduated from Pecos High School in 1938. At the age of 16 he went to Texas A&M to purse veterinarian medicine. He graduated from Texas A&M in 1943. He married "Bobbie" Roberson May 27 1943 who preceded him in death. He married Ernesteen Barton a long time resident of Abilene February 24 2007. He immediately went into the United States Army and served from 1943 – 1946. He moved to Abilene in 1946 and began his veterinarian practice with Dr. Paul Smith Abilene 's first large animal practice. After Dr. Smith's demise Bill built his own clinic Abilene Veterinarian Clinic. When Bill retired he sold his practice to Dr. Larry Ellis. Bill was a vet that never turned a client away. He would treat the animal free if the client could not afford to pay. He gave endless time to the Animal Control Center for thirty-five years. He was an active member and donator of the First Baptist Church where he was a member for over sixty years. He was active in many organizations to include; Boy Scouts of America Judge for Golden Glove and Rotary Club of Abilene . He served for many years and was President of Texas A&M Board of Veterinarian Examiners. President of the Board and member of both Abilene Country Club and Fairway Oaks Country Club. He was a Charter member and instrumental in starting the Fairway Oaks Home Association. Bill was an avid golfer and played with Abilene 's "Gangsom" for years. He was a dedicated member of the Rotary Club of Abilene . True to his custom of unselfish support of organizations he chose to join. Bill held a record of perfect attendance at the club for over sixty-three years. Only his recent illness prevented extending that record. He also has been an active member of the local club longer than any other active member. He chose to support all its activities with his time talents and finances. Bill truly exemplified the Rotary motto "Service Above Self". He was preceded in death by his parents wife Bobbie Roberson son Robert Neil Roberson son-in-law Terry Louis Burkholder of Pecos and granddaughter Tiffani Burkholder of Midland . He is survived by his wife Ernesteen Barton of Abilene . Daughter Billie Jean Burkholder of Midland . Granddaughters Tera Burkholder King of Midland Kimberly Reynolds of Missouri . Grandson Kevin Louis Roberson of Keller Texas . Daughter-in-law Nancy Reese Roberson of Richland Hills Texas . Five great grandchildren Brooke Adrienne King Gray Reynolds Zach Reynolds Kiersyn Roberson and Kaitryn Roberson.
