Obituary

Betty Sue (Sheffield) Hirsch, 83, passed away Friday, March 22, 2024, at Belterra Health and Rehabilitation Center in McKinney, Texas. Visitation will be held on Monday, April 1st from 10 am until noon at North's Funeral Home, 242 Orange St., Abilene. Funeral Services will be held on Monday at 1pm at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery at Abilene, 7457 W. Lake Rd. with Johnny Sheffield officiating. Betty was born on March 19, 1941, in Concho, Texas to Elmer and Violet Lucielle (Herridge) Sheffield. Shortly after graduating from Paint Rock High School in 1958, she moved to Abilene, Texas, and met her husband of 61 years, Emil Hirsch. She began her career at Timex, and ultimately ended up in education, where she worked for the Abilene Independent School district until she retired after 33 years. Betty was passionate about educating children, working with multiple elementary age levels. Betty was a voracious reader, a talented artist, and a dedicated mother to her two sons and grandmother. Betty Sue is survived by her husband of 61 years, Emil Leroy Hirsch of McKinney, Texas; her two sons--Robert Hirsch (wife Erin) of McKinney, Texas and Wesley Hirsch (wife Jill) of Allen, Texas; her four granddaughters--Emily Schrock (husband James) of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Sarah Hirsch (fiancé William Tipton) of Lubbock, Texas; Rebekah Hirsch of Lubbock, Texas and Rachel Hirsch of Allen, Texas; and one great-grandson--James Austin Schrock of Albuquerque, New Mexico. She is also survived by her brother, Johnny Sheffield (wife Lynette) of Tuscola, Texas and her two sisters--Mozelle Eaves of Synder, Texas and Janice Bailey of Paint Rock, Texas. She is preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Violet Lucielle Sheffield, and her two brothers, James Sheffield and Jack Sheffield.
