Billie Jean Lewis, age 74, of Abilene, Texas, departed this life on Tuesday, May 5, 2026. A celebration of her life will be held Saturday, May 16, 2026, at 11:00 AM at the Minda St. Church of Christ, with burial following in Elmwood Memorial Park. Visitation will be Friday evening, May 15, 2026, from 5 to 7:00 PM at North's Funeral Home. Billie was born on August 21, 1951, in Abilene to Annie Lee Bell and Charlie T. Lewis. She attended and graduated from Woodson High School. Billie was baptized into Christ and was a faithful member of the Minda St. Church of Christ, where she cherished her church family and found great joy in fellowship and worship. Billie had a servant's heart and faithfully volunteered for many years at Hendrick Medical Center North, logging more than 6000 volunteer hours. Her sweet smile was one of the first things you saw as you entered the Jones Center at Hendrick. Billie loved spending time with friends and church members, sharing laughter, good conversations, and enjoying good food together. She especially enjoyed going to the GV Daniels Recreation Center with her dear sister in law Zella where they would visit with friends, play Uno, Bingo and Word Search and eat lunch. In the summer, Billie loved to eat snow cones. Music brought her happiness, and she loved to sing and listen to good singing. Billie was a part of the Minda St. chorus for many years so it was always a treat when Minda St. members came by to sing to her. Billie also enjoyed watching television, keeping up with the news, and cheering on her favorite basketball teams. We all knew to never switch Billie's TV channel or adjust the sound because she had it exactly where she wanted it. Billie attended church faithfully until her health would no longer permit. One of Billie's greatest joys was the children at church. She cared deeply for them and would make sure they behaved during services by giving them a stern look or a swift "Go back to your mama." Her presence, kindness, smile and laughter will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Even after moving to Silver Springs, Billie continued to long for the opportunity to return to church and reconnect with the people and place she loved so much. Billie Jean Lewis leaves behind precious memories that will forever remain in the hearts of her family, friends, and church family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Annie Lee Lewis and Charlie Lewis; her brother, H.D. Woodruff; her sister, Lenora Lewis; and her aunts, Rose Townsend, Penny Butler, and Lillie Mae Brown. Billie was also preceded in death by her good friend and sister in Christ, Denise Emery, who was her wonderful caretaker for many years. Left to cherish her memories are: Sister in Law Zella Woodruff, brother Larry Lewis and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
