Billy H. Brewer 87 died on March 22 2013 in an Abilene nursing home. Grave side services will be held on April 6 2013 at 5:00 p.m. in the Dewey Cemetery located on FM 382 south of Abilene. Roy Meyer and Mike Hardaway of the Lawn Church of Christ will officiate. Bill was born in Taylor County to Finis Eugene and Leo Henrietta Brewer on March 22 1926. He attended Abilene and Elmdale schools until he enlisted into the Merchant Marines in 1944. Bill married Ruby Marian Fannin on March 22 1947. They lived in the Abilene Wylie and Tuscola areas during their marriage. Bill was an accomplished horse trainer and calf roper. He owned trained and exhibited the 1963 Reserve World Champion Appaloosa Roping Horse. He was a founding member of the Abilene Saddle Club and served as Drill Master of its All Girls Drill Team. He served several years on the Central Texas Appaloosa Horse Club Board. He also served on the Wylie ISD School Board. Bill worked as a mechanic for Fleet Equipment and for the City of Abilene. He became the Equipment Services Superintendent for the City of Abilene in the early 1970's until his retirement in 1990. He owned and leased many acres of farm land raised wheat hay and cattle. Bill was a member of the Lawn Church of Christ. He is survived by his wife of 66 years Ruby Brewer of Abilene a son Steve Brewer and wife Barbara of Lawn a daughter Kelly Beard and husband Ricky of Lawn grandchildren Jennifer Richey and husband Justin of Merkel Luke Beard and wife Cara of Abilene Matt Brewer and wife Morgan of Abilene Betsy Spraberry and husband Luke of Anson and Erin Beard of Abilene three great grandchildren Garrett Smith of Merkel Halle Beard of Abilene and Karley Brewer of Abilene sisters Frances Barton of Bertram Bette Pitcock of Abilene and Norma Murphy of California and an aunt Melba Gene Atkins and husband J.D. of Abilene and many nieces nephews and cousins. Bill is preceded in death by his parents Finis Eugene and Leo Henrietta Brewer his stepmother Azalea Brewer and two sisters Gwen Fincher and Yvonne Fraser. In lieu of flowers the family requests that any donations be made to Hendrick Hospice Care of Abilene or to a favorite charity.
