Brenda was born in Abilene, Texas to Wayne and Delia (Price) Carter on March 15th, 1943. Brenda was a lifelong resident of Hawley. She graduated from Hawley High School in 1961. She was a basketball player who helped lead her team to the State Playoffs.
She married Billy Carnes on august 18th, 1961. They met at the age of 14 when he moved to Hawley. He preceded her in death in 2016.
Brenda worked for the Hawley post Office as amail carrier for 34 years, retiring in2009. It was a job she thoroughly enjoyed. She was known to bring home abandoned animals she found on her mail route.
She had a love for travel, whether it was a weekend camping trip, the family farm to hunt for arrowheads, a week in Colorado (her favorite place), or the 3 months she spent touring Australia.
She is preceded by her husband and her parents.
She is survived by her son, Russell Carnes, of Lipan. Daughter, Surenda Lord, and husband Gary of Hawley, Stacie Heine, and her husband Rusty of Hawley, Daughter in law, Tina Lee of Gordon. She was Ma to nine grandchildren, Sheena Herden and husband Jamie of Hawley, Blake Carnes, and wife Makenzy, of Hawley, Jacina Eason, and husband Ben of Burleson, Texas, Colton Carnes, and wife Jessica of Godley, Texas, Hannah Carnes, and fiance Gabe Moya of lipan, Private 2nd Class Josh Carnes of Ft. Still, Oklahoma, Cayleb Carnes of Gordon, Texas, Jeremy Heine of Princeton, Texas, and Zachary Heine, and wife Sierra of Hawley, Texas. She had 15 great-grandchildren. Many Carnes nieces and nephews who she loved. A long list of motorcycle friends and gambling buddies that ahe has known over 40 years. Her three fur babies, Iggy, Sam, and Stormy.
The family would like to thank Jill Bristow at Hendrick Hospice for the special care she gave Ma in her final days.
