Bruce Edward Blackshear 69 of Abilene passed away Tuesday, September 5, 2023 . Funeral Services will be held Friday 11am at North's Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Michael Smith Officiating. Visitation will be held Thursday at North's Funeral Home from 6-8pm
Bruce was born February 6, 1954 in Ft. Worth, TX to Clarette Blackshear and Robert Smith. Bruce received his primary education from Abilene public schools, graduating from Abilene High. After High School he worked for the City of Abilene, then he worked for Rentech Boiler Systems for 18 years before retiring on his birthday February 6, 2019.
Bruce loved to watch sports. He enjoyed watching his favorite team the Dallas Cowboys, He also enjoyed hanging out and spending time with his friends and family.
Bruce was preceded in death by : Parents Robert Smith, Clarette Blackshear, brother Dana Blackshear, and 2 cousins that were raised as sisters Tracy Beal and Nelda Barnaba.
Left to cherish his memories are: children: Kenya Johnson of Abilene, Eric Gilmore and wife Johnetta of Abilene, Kyle Johnson of Abilene and his 102 year old Grandmother Doris Hysaw. Brothers; Tim Blackshear of Fort Worth, Felix Vance of California, Cedric Blackshear of Fort Worth, Dane "Ronnie" Blackshear and wife Gloria of Fort Worth, Robert Blackshear of Fort Worth. Sisters: Linda Porter of Fort Worth, Celeta Collins of Fort Worth, Hershel Blackshear-Holland (Gary) of Fort Worth. Three cousins who were raised as brothers Randall Smith (Barbara), Tony Smith, David Smith,13 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and a host of extended family and many friends.
