Obituary

Bruce Rogers Freeman, 86, of Abilene, passed away, Tuesday, March 1, 2016. Graveside Services will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, March 3, 2016 in Elmwood Memorial Park with Brother Billy Bardin officiating under the direction of North's Funeral Home, 242 Orange Street. Bruce Rogers Freeman was born in Abilene, Texas on August 26, 1929 to Rufus and Anita Freeman. Bruce graduated from Abilene High School in 1949. He served in the Army National Guard from 1950 to 1951, and then enlisted in the Army to serve in the Korean War from 1951 to 1953. Bruce was not afraid to try anything. He did everything from fighting forest fires to coyote scalping. Bruce loved the outdoors. He was a master gardener and volunteered many hours to the AgriLife Extension Service of Taylor County. He looked forward to the annual tree sales every year. He completed in skeet shooting events, collecting several trophies. Bruce loved leather working and he earned a lifetime membership in 2008 as a Taylor County Master Gardener with over 6,500 volunteer hours. Bruce is preceded in death by his parents and his beloved dog "Blondie" who was the sunshine of his life. Bruce is survived by a cousin, Randall Evans, special neighbors, friends and his faithful dog, "Sheena". Memorials can be made to Rescue the Animals, Abilene, Texas.
