Obituary

Cal Thomas Scott, 81, of Abilene, was welcomed into his heavenly home on October 22, 2017. Funeral services will be held at Belmont Baptist Church, 2117 Palm Street, Abilene, Texas, on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at 1:00 P.M. with Brother Jimmie Griffith officiating. Cal will receive full military honors for his years of service graveside at Elmwood Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be U.S. Air Force Honor Guard and grandson, Rio Ramelot, U.S. Navy Corpsman. Cal was born August 25, 1936 in Lawn, Texas to Herne Walker Scott and Gracie Emma Montgomery Scott and was raised in San Saba, Texas. He was determined to serve his country and joined the Navy where he was trained as a pilot. He went on to enlist in the U.S. Air Force and served for 20 years as an aviation electronics specialist. After he retired, he worked as an electrical engineer for Texas Pacific Oil Company and Sun Oil Company. Cal's love for flying evolved into one of his favorite hobbies of building and flying remote control airplanes. He also enjoyed fishing, traveling, taking cruises, camping, cooking out, and spending time with family and friends. He will be remembered for his devotion to his wife and family, his readiness to help when he could, and his sense of humor. Cal was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Billie Sue Scott, and his youngest son, Billy Dale Scott. Cal is survived by his brother, Dale Dayton Scott of Abilene, his children, Tracye Leigh Scott of Abilene, Texas, Sue Anne Scott of Cabot, Arkansas, Callie Grace Scott of Nashville, Tennessee, and Mark Haile of Aloha, Oregon, eight grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, and two nieces. The family wishes to say thank you to West Texas Rehabilitation Center Speech Pathology for working with him after his stroke in 2013, Home Instead for their assistance in Abilene and in Lubbock, and Hendrick Hospice for their wonderful care of Cal in his last days. Visitation will be Tuesday, October 24, from 5 P.M. to 7 P.M, at North's Funeral Home chapel, 242 Orange Street, Abilene, Texas. Online condolences may be made at www.northsfuneralhome.com
