Carroll Roy Cockerell 75 passed away on September 2 2011 at his summer home in Anacortes Washington. In his final years Carroll overcame a variety of health issues including non-Hodgkin's lymphoma skin cancer and throat cancer to be with those he loved. He had great joy for living. He is survived by his wife Karen Cockerell; his sons Marc Edward Cockerell and Jason David Maxwell; his daughter-in-law Lauren Rule Maxwell; his granddaughter Carson June Maxwell; his brother Edward Earl Cockerell III and his sister-in-law Kay Cockerell; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law Linda and Mark Daniel; his nieces Carolyn Cockerell and Elizabeth Daniel; his nephews Eddy Cockerell and Chris Cockerell and his wife Mari Cockerell; and three great-nieces and two great-nephews. Raised in Abilene Texas Carroll is the son of Edward E. Cockerell Jr. and Estha Neva Pennington Cockerell. His grandparents Dr. Edward E. "Doc" Cockerell and Margaret Thurman Cockerell and C. R. Pennington and Annie McGlasson Pennington also lived in Abilene. He attended San Marcos Academy and graduated from Hardin Simmons with a BBA. Carroll was an entrepreneur starting his first business a sprinkler installation company when he was a senior in college. He was a stockbroker in California in the 1960s and applied his knowledge of economics to his businesses. When he returned to Abilene his various business endeavors included the credit bureau a family business and real estate development. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday September 8 2011 at North's Funeral Home 242 Orange Street. The funeral services will be held Friday September 9 2011 at 1 p.m. at First Central Presbyterian Church and the burial will take place thereafter in Elmwood Memorial Garden.
