Charlene (Lene) Hartsfield Bill, 82, of Abilene passed away surrounded by family. Saturday, March 15, 2025. Visitation will be held Monday, March 24, 2025, 10:00 AM - 12:30 PM at North's Funeral Home. Graveside Services will be held Monday March 24, 2025 at 1PM at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery of Abilene, Texas, with Pastor Jami McCravey officiating.
Charlene was born September 9, 1942 in Stephenville, TX to Jonnie Francis Aaron and George Thomas Hartsfield.
She attended the historic Three Way School in Erath County and graduated from Stephenville High School. In 1975, Charlene received her LVN diploma from Cisco Junior College and began to work at the Abilene State School where she later met her husband of more than 42 years. Charlene often quipped that she and Augie "met by state, not fate." In addition to working for more than 30 years in the field of nursing, Charlene and Augie enjoyed traveling throughout the United States as well as Canada and Mexico. In 1995, Charlene and Augie bought a two-story building in Baird, Texas, and started an antiques and collectibles business named The Traffic Light Emporium which still stands today.
Charlene was preceded in death by Jonnie Frances Hartsfield (mother); Tommie Hartsfield (father); and Eva Black (sister)
Left to cherish her memories are: husband, Augustine (Augie) Z. Bill; Fred Bannowsky (son) and wife Jennifer; Tammy Walker (daughter); Kaitlyn Walker (granddaughter); Luke Bannowsky (grandson); Wanda Campbell (sister); Shirley Nolan (sister); Three fur-babies; Blaze, Coco (chihuahuas), and Miss Kitty. Charlene is also survived by numerous nephews and nieces.
