Charles W. Dortch, 94, of Abilene, passed away December 7, 2016. A graveside service is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 10, 2016 in Elmwood Memorial Park under the direction of North's Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Friday from 5-7:00 p.m. in North's Memorial Chapel, 242 Orange Street.
Mr. Dortch was born December 15, 1921 in Abilene, Texas to Benjamin and Bessie (White) Dortch. He graduated from Abilene High School in 1939 and McMurry University in 1948. He married Shirley Ruth Jolly, August 8, 1952 in the First United Methodist Church, Abilene Texas. He was a member of the Aldersgate United Methodist Church since 1961 and served in the U.S. Army from 1942-1945. He was a member of The Home Builder Sunday School Class and the West Texas Claims Association. He was a claims adjuster for State Farm Insurance for thirty-four years and an avid coin collector.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Dortch, one brother, Marion Dortch and one sister, Beemie Little.
He is survived by two sons, Phillip Dortch of Abilene and Kenneth Dortch and wife Kimberly of Sunnyvale, Texas. Two grandchildren, Megan Dortch of Washington DC and Camden Dortch of Sunnyvale, Texas. One niece and four nephews.
