Charles (Milky) Edward Sewell Sr. 88 a resident of Calder Woods left this Earth peacefully on Thursday January 1 following a short illness. A graveside service is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. Saturday at Round Mound Cemetery in Abilene Texas under the direction of North's Funeral Home 242 Orange Street.
A native of Abilene Charles was the son of Nellie (Lane) and John Newton Sewell Sr. born on April 11 1920.
Charles was a graduate of Abilene High School and Texas A&M University (Dairy Science) which he attended following his service in WW II as commander of an armored company. Charles served as Bexar County Agent (San Antonio) for several years before joining Hildebrandt Farms of San Antonio as the Diary Operations Manager. In 1954 he returned to Abilene as a field sales representative for Ralston Purina. Over the next several years he established a dairy operation in Sweetwater and turkey breeding farm in Winters. In the late '60's he began raising hogs near Merkel and was the largest pork producer in West Texas in 1997 when he retired.
In 1988 Charles was preceded in death by his first wife Nora Molly Manly Sewell of Abilene whom he married in March 1941; 2004 by his second wife Gaynelle Kinser Hicks Sewell of Sweetwater; his sister Dr. Majorie Sewell of South Africa; and his brother John Sewell Jr of Abilene; and grandson Kyle Lane Sewell of Beaumont.
Survivors include a son Charles E. (Rusty) Sewell Jr and wife Molly of Beaumont; a daughter Mollyann Sewell of Abilene; and a sister Ola Fielder of Dallas. Charles also has one granddaughter Erin Courtney Sewell of Austin.
Memorials may be made to the American Kidney Foundation in memory of his wife Molly or to the Alzheimers Association for Research P.O. Box 3344 Abilene Texas 79604 in memory of his wife Gaynelle.
