Clayton E. Wells age 86 passed away November 14, 2023 in Abilene, TX. He was born June 8, 1937, in Memphis (Hall Co) Texas to Maud (Worshem) Wells and Del E. Wells. Clayton was raised on the family farm west of Lakeview, Texas, where his father raised cotton, angus cattle, and alfalfa. He graduated from Lakeview High School in 1955 where he lettered in basketball and tennis. He attended McMurray College in Abilene, and Texas Tech University in Lubbock. Clayton served in the US Army from 1959 thru 1961 and was stationed in Frankfurt, West Germany, where he served on the Commanding General's staff, 3rd Armored Division. He moved to Los Angeles, California, in 1963 and worked for the Union Pacific Railroad for the next 30 years. He was active in Democratic politics and attended four national conventions as a member of the California delegation. He was named Los Angeles County "Democrat of the Year" in 1979. After retiring in 1993 Clayton returned to Texas dividing his time between the family farm and Abilene. During his retirement years he traveled to Europe, Canada, and the US.
Clayton was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Keith. He is survived by one niece and two nephews. He was a life-long Methodist.
