Collette, Irene, Adair Henderson, 91, passed away Saturday morning, January 6, 2024, at her home in Abilene, Texas after a brief illness. Mrs. Henderson was born April 23, 1932, to Beulah Marie (Grindle) McFarland and Sherman Francis McFarland in Otter Creek, Maine. She, her parents and her only sibling, Constance Louise (McFarland) Geremia, survived Maine's Mount Desert Island fire in 1947, which destroyed her home, and all their belongings, but taught the importance of family. As a young woman, she worked in marketing in New York until marrying Donovan P. Adair, a member of the United States Air Force in 1953. They were transferred many times during their 30 year Air Force career, but chose to settle in Abilene with their four children after a long deployment to Dyess Air Force Base. Collette was an avid supporter and participant in the Abilene bowling scene, serving as secretary on various leagues over nearly 50 years. She was also an accomplished tailor and love to cultivate her flower and vegetable gardens. After being widowed, Collette married John Charles Henderson, spent several years traveling the country, then settled into retirement in Abilene. Mrs. Henderson is survived by two of her four children, David Francis Adair of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Yvonne Marie Adair Smith, of Abilene, grandson Donovan Louis McPeak, granddaughters, Sandra Dawn Adair and Collette Louise (Smith) Duck, as well as her great granddaughter, Violet Marie Duck. She is preceded in death by her parents, Beulah and Sherman McFarland, sister Constance Louise (McFarland) Geremia, husband Donovan P. Adair, nephew Samuel Geremia, and granddaughter Stacy Irene Kolano. Also preceding her in death, her second husband, John Charles Henderson, eldest son, Douglas Walter Adair, and youngest daughter, Deborah Gail (Adair) McPeak . There will be a private service to celebrate her life. She will be greatly missed.
