On Friday January 27, 2017 Col. (Ret.) Rodney O. Weeks entered the gates of heaven. When he was nine years old, during an evening church service, Rodney walked barefoot down the aisle and accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior. A Funeral service is scheduled at 2:00 P.M. Saturday in the Wylie Baptist Church with Rick Grant, Todd Keller, Don Cass, Randy Weeks and T.C. Melton officiating. Military Honors will be performed at the church. He will be laid to rest in the Air Force Academy. The family will receive friends Friday evening, February 3, 2017 from 6:00 P.M. ~ 8:00 P.M. Rodney was born on August 8, 1945 at Keesler Air Force Base to Shed and Mildred (Gober) Weeks. At an early age the family moved to Madison Mississippi where Rodney graduated from Madison Richland High School. Rodney was a graduate of the United States Air Force Academy, Class of 1967. He went on to protect our nation with twenty-six years of distinguished service, beginning as a T-38 Talon Instructor Pilot. Soon after he was assigned to Strategic Air Command flying the now, legendary B-52 Stratofortress during the Cold War when tensions with the Soviet Union were at their peak. He stood countless hours of nuclear watch. Rodney's elite leadership and expertise accelerated him through numerous military command positions and ever increasing ranks culminating with his retirement in 1993 at Dyess Air Force, 7th Bomb Wing Maintenance Group Commander in the grade of Colonel. He faithfully served in Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm, and is the recipient of the Legion of Merit as well as, five Meritorious Service Medals. Rodney married Marlene Ann Nelson in December 1967. From this marriage two sons, Randal Weeks and Patrick Weeks were born. They were married forty-two years and in 2010 he lost her after a second battle with cancer. In 2011 Rodney married Abilene native Sherry Dennis Moore. He was preceded in death by his parents. Col. (Ret.) Weeks is survived by his wife Sherry Weeks and her daughter Katie Moore-Weeks. He is also survived by his two sons and their families, Randal Weeks and wife Sally and their children Chandler, Ethan, and Aiden, and Lt. Col. (Ret.) Patrick Weeks and wife Laura and their children Allison and Taylor. Siblings, Randy Weeks, Nancy and husband Kelly Park, and Hilda and husband Norman Gainey, special cousin Pat Curtis and his wife Helen, and brother-in-law Scot Nelson.
