Della Mae Ward 66, of Abilene passed away Thursday May 8, 2025. a Celebration of her life will be held Saturday May 17, 2025 at 2pm at North's Funeral Home, 242 Orange St. Abilene, TX
Della Mae Ward was born in San Angelo, Texas to Evelyn Louise Chance and James Rodgers Sr. on August 9th, 1958 she was raised in Ogden Utah where she graduated in 1975 from Ogden High School. She met, fell in love, and Married James Russell Ward, an Air-Force Military Police Officer stationed at Hill Air-Force Base on September 20th 1975 in Ogden, Utah. Traveling to the Philippines the couple gave birth to their first daughter Shermell Kizzy Ward, and their second daughter Jamie Shante Ward in Agana Heights, Guam.
The two love-birds continued traveling the world. Later stationed in Lubbock, Texas Della worked at the United States Post Office as a Clerk. Next the lovely couple became stationed at Moody Air-Force Base in Valdosta, Georgia where they bought their first family home and settled. Della attended and graduated from Valdosta Technical Institute with her Associate's Degree in Marketing. Della moved between states and resided in Abilene, Texas until her transition. Della was beautiful, free-spirited, bold, risk-taker, go-getter, comical, loving, nurturing, made the impossible happen, great advice giver, loyal, always helping others she will be eternally missed and never forgotten.
Della Mae Ward was preceded in death by her Mother Evelyn Louise Chance, her Father James Rodgers Sr. Brothers Larry Darnell Chance, Randy Chance, and Noel Russell Chance. Sister Carolyn Chance. Uncles: Robert Chance, James Chance, Charles Chance, Samuel Chance, Ray Chance. Aunts: Darlene Chance Hammork, Dorothy Chance McNally, Doris Chance Walker, Leona Chance Hurrington.
She leaves to cherish her memory three daughters, Shermell Kizzy Ward, Jamie Shante Ward, Marissa Wolfe and one grandson Xavier J'Sean Williams. Along with with numerous nieces, nephews, friends, and family.
