Denise Gray, 66, of Abilene passed away Thursday, March 7, 2024. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2024 at 2:00pm at North's Funeral Home. Denise was born January 13, 1958 in Hamlin, TX to Myrna Zoann Current and Joseph Vernon Smart Sr. Denise received her Bachelor's Degree in Business in 2002 from LeTourneau University. In 2006, after losing a sister-in-law to a drunk driver, Denise decided to go into nursing. She started off as a CNA and later in 2009, she attended nursing school and became an LVN. She went back to nursing school in 2011, and became an RN, followed by her RN-BSN in 2012. She found her destiny as a Nurse. Denise loved helping people. She would give the shirt off her back to anyone that was in need. She was truly a genuine, giving and caring soul. In her spare time, she greatly enjoyed quilting and gardening in her backyard. Her newest passion was her Casita. She worked hard to save up the money to buy it cash, which is a goal she obtained. All Denise wanted to do was retire and travel the country with her dog, Buddy. He meant the world to her. She always had pets, not purebreds but the strays that needed love and a place to call home. However, her greatest achievement of them all, was her children and grandchildren. She truly was an amazing mom, grandmother and protector. Denise married her first husband, Curtis Myer in 1976 and they had three children together. She then later married William Gray in May of 1988 and they had one child together. She was also married to David Nairn a time or two (a little family fun insider story), and was widowed by him in December 2015. Denise was preceded in death by her parents; Joseph and Myrna Smart, daughter; Teresa Myer, husband; David Nairn and nephew; James G. Smart. Left to cherish her memories are: son; Keith Myer and spouse Jackie Stone of Watauga, Texas, daughters; Angela Mock of Spokone, Washington; Ashley Gray and spouse Alejandro Silguero of Stamford, Texas. Brother; Joseph Smart Jr. of Florida, Sister; Anna Burgess and spouse Bobby Burgess of Mineral Wells, Sister; Donna Guerra of Abilene, Texas, Brother; Michael Smart of McCaughley. Grandchildren; Brianna, Riley, Nathaniel, Damien, Lillian, Alexander, Kailyn, Addyson, Kaysen. Numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and a host of friends and coworkers.
