Donald (Pistol) James Chroge 77, of Abilene went to be with our Heavenly Father on Friday, December 20, 2013. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday in Builders Baptist Church in Merkel, Texas with Jimmy Gilbreath officiating. Burial to follow, in Elmwood Memorial Park, under the direction of North's Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. Sunday in North's Memorial Chapel, 242 Orange St. Don was born July 24, 1936 to Wallace and Katy (Boyle) Chroge in Escanaba, Michigan. He served his country in the United States Air Force from 1955 – 1959. He was stationed in Abilene, Texas. He worked at Whites Mines for fifteen years. He was Owner/Operator of Don's Sand and Gravel until retiring in 2007. He was a member of the Builder's Baptist church in Merkel. He was baptized along with his grandsons, Tyler and Chase on July 27, 2007. He is preceded in death by his parents, son Gary Don Chroge. One great-grandson, Karson Wade Warren. Two brothers and three sisters. He is survived by his wife Frankie Chroge of Abilene. Four daughters; Debbie Burkhalter and husband Danny of Bastrop, Texas, Sheila Orner of Abilene, Diane and husband Will Bishop. Cyndy Carey of Abilene. Two sons, Robert Chroge of Abilene and Tim and wife Susie Langford of Bastrop. Thirteen grandchildren. Eight Great-grandchildren. Four sisters and one brother.
