Donald (Don) Louis Moore, 86, passed away peacefully in his home on June 27, 2025 with family by his side. Funeral service will be held Tuesday July 8, 2025 at 11am at North's Funeral Home with burial to follow at the Abilene City Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday from 6-8pm at North's Funeral Home Chapel. Don was born on January 31, 1939 in Paris, Texas to Ruby (Hicks) and Arther Moore Jr. His parents moved to Abilene when he was a young child. He graduated from Carter G. Woodson High School and went on to attend Prairie View A&M University where he studied Auto Mechanics. Don was drafted into the Army in December of 1959 and served 3 years. He completed The Transportation School for Aircraft Rotor and Propellor Repairman courses. He was Honorable discharged in 1962. Don met his wife, Alice Coleman in Abilene soon after being discharged. They were married for over 57 years and raised 6 children and numerous grandchildren all in Abilene. He became a Union Machinist for General Dynamics in Abilene, Texas. He worked at General Dynamics for over 20 years before moving to Arlington and working another 20 years for Bell Helicopter. He retired from 2 major companies but decided to work for Abilene Independent School District in his retirement years. Don was a HUGE Dallas Cowboys fan and made sure his grandchildren followed in his footsteps. He was also a fan of the Texas Rangers. He took many of his grandkids to baseball and football games. He also had a lifelong love of mechanics. Any given Saturday, he could be found in his backyard tinkering on his truck. (ALL CHEVY or GMC) Don loved his wife, Alice, kids / grandkids, Cowboys, Coors and trucks (probably in that order). He was a soft-spoken man who rarely raised his voice. He was respected and honored at all times. Don leaves to cherish his memories, his son Earnest Blanton of Abilene, TX. He shared 18 grandchildren, and many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Don was preceded in death by his parents, Ruby (Hicks) & Arthur Moore Jr; his wife, Alice (Coleman) Moore; three daughters, Dorothy Dukes, Linda Blanton and Margie Blanton; two sons, Willie Jones and Donald Edward Moore.
