Doris Ruebush passed away peacefully on June 24, 2017 in Abilene, Texas. She was born Doris Jean Lindley on July 31, 1930 near Abilene, Texas in the community of Potosi to Hardie and Hope Lindley. The family included her three brothers: Buell, Jearl, and Norman.
She graduated from Abilene High School in 1947 and enrolled in Abilene Christian College. At ACC, she met Stanley Ruebush, and after a lengthy courtship, they were married January 14, 1950. They established their home in Deming, New Mexico, where Doris gave birth to five children: Hugh, Barry, Ardythe, Andrea, and Shelby. Her descendants include eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
In Deming, she was active in the Church of Christ. She volunteered in many community service projects and also worked as an election judge and substitute teacher.
In 1977, Doris returned to Abilene with Andrea and Shelby, and she worked in a variety of jobs, primarily in the insurance industry to support her family. In later years she volunteered with the Grace Museum and Frontier Texas.
Doris was a member of the Highland Church of Christ in Abilene, where a Reception of Memories with her family will be held from 2:00pm to 4:00pm on July 15, 2017.
Doris' family would like to extend their deepest gratitude for the care provided her in her last years on this earth by the caregivers at Wisteria Place and Hendrick Hospice Care.
