Obituary

Doyle R. Baker 84 of Abilene passed away June 12 2009 after an intense battle with cancer. A graveside service is scheduled for Friday morning at 11:00 a.m. with burial to follow in Johnson Cemetery in Munday Texas under the direction of North's Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. at North's Memorial Chapel 242 Orange St. Mr. Baker was born October 28 1924 in Goree Texas to Jasper and Drusilla Baker. Doyle served his country with distinction as a career enlisted man in the U. S. Air Force retiring as Senior Master Sergeant after 21 years of service. Doyle then enjoyed a second career as a real estate broker in Abilene for some 20 years. Doyle's great love in his life was his family with whom he spent many hours over the years especially with his grandchildren and later his great-grandchildren. He will be remembered fondly by his friends and will be missed greatly by his family who cherish the years we had with him. He was preceded in death by his first wife Audrey Brewton Baker his brother Boyd Baker and his parents Jay L. and Drusilla Baker. He is survived by his wife Vonceal Baker his sister Allene Beaty of Munday Texas; one daughter Barbara Zamets and husband Steve of Tulsa Oklahoma; one son Donald Baker and wife Elizabeth Fielder Baker of Plano Texas; five grandchildren all married. Katrina (Zamets) and Duncan Ostrander with two children: Sydney age six and Ethan age two. Stephanie (Zamets) and Ryan Brown with daughter Avery age five months. Jennifer (Baker) and Jeff Peltz with two boys: Austin age five and Travis age three. John Robert and Brittany Getter Baker who are newly married. Julie (Baker) and Ben Jalapa with daughter Sarah age three.
