Effie Mae McLendon was born on March 3, 1951 to Jimmie and Oberia Hughes Jr in Sledge, Mississippi. In 1955, she and her family moved to Memphis, Tennessee where in 1970, she met the love of her life, Houston T. McLendon. They married three years later on November 5, 1973 and went on to raise four children, Terrence, Dannion, Juantina, and Imani. Effie was also a Mother in Christ to many family members and to friends whom she met while living in Tennessee, Texas, Maine, Arkansas, and Hawaii. She confessed her life to Christ at an early age. In the mid 70s, 1st Lady Effie McLendon was born and has been a joy ever since. She and Pastor McLendon started their ministry at King Solomon Baptist Church in Abilene, TX where she sung in the choir. Pastor Mac and Sister Mac, as they are also known, traveled the United States sharing the Word and Love to everyone they met. According to their children, they didn't go anywhere fun. Sister Mac gracefully took on the role as a pastor's wife, making it look effortless. Many have said, being a 1st Lady is a hard job, but to Sis Mac it was easy because she had a heart for the people. If you needed anything, she was there for you with a smile and opened arms. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jimmie and Oberia Hughes Jr; brothers, Willie, Samuel, George, and Robert Hughes; and sister, Ola Mae Butler. Effie leaves to cherish her precious memories to: Her husband, Pastor Houston McLendon, her children Terrance (Carissa) McLendon of Lexington, TX, Dannion (Tracey) McLendon of Midlothian, TX, Juantina Wilchie of San Antonio, TX, and Imani Williams of Abilene, TX Four brothers, James Hughes, Percy Hughes, Sr., Charles Hughes, Gregory Hughes, and one sister, Alma Smith all of Memphis, TN. Twelve grandchildren, Anthony McLendon, LaChari Wilchie, Daniel Wilchie, Deonne McLendon, Jaylen McLendon, Amira McLendon, Moriah McLendon, Terrance McLendon Jr., Noah McLendon, Olivia McLendon, Emani McLendon, Xavier Owens Six great grandchildren, Tarik Peck, Carter Wilchie, A'Ziyon Wilchie, DeNayzha McLendon, Deyauna McLendon, and Zyaire Bush Countless nieces, nephews, and friends whom she treated as her own. She was faithful and well loved by her family members and church family.
