Mildred Elaine Smith, 87 years old of Abilene, Texas, passed away on December 25, 2022.
Graveside services and interment of ashes will be held in the spring at Mount Hope Cemetery in Clyde, Kansas.
Elaine Smith was preceded in death by husband Dwain Smith, father Paul Stolzenburg, mother Vesta Stolzenburg, infant son Dale Lynn, brother Eldon Stolzenburg, sister Marcheta Hiner all of Kansas. On July 12, 2020 Darcy Louis Tieking of Abilene, her first born, preceded her in death.
Elaine Smith is survived by son Dallas Tieking of Herford, Texas; daughter Danna Pennington of Abilene, son Darin Barnes of Muncie, Indiana and sisters Doris McCall and Lois Shotwell both of Kansas. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Elaine was born in a farm house in rural Cloud County, Kansas to Paul and Vesta Stolzenburg on December 27, 1934.
She married at the age of 18. Her family then began with identical twin sons at age 19, a daughter at age 20 and a son at age 33. She moved to Abilene in 1957 and this became her home. In 1993 she moved to Naples, Texas related to her nursing profession. Elaine then returned back to Abilene in 2009 to be closer to family.
Elaine graduated from the LVN Nursing School at Hendrick Hospital in Abilene in 1960. At age of 54, she went back to school to obtain her RN degree in nursing from Midland College Nursing Program. Her love in nursing was for the care of the geriatric patient, which she remained caring for until her retirement in 2017.
Elaine was baptized as a Jehovahs Witness in 1996 in the Naples Congregation and continued her membership with the Abilene, Texas Congregation for the last 13 years.
