Elgie Robbins 101 of Abilene passed away Sunday June 1 2008. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday in Sears Methodist Chapel 3202 S. Willis. Burial to follow in Elmwood Memorial Park under the direction of North's Funeral Home 242 Orange St. Mr. Robbins was born in Bronson Texas to William and Katie Robbins. He hitchhiked to Abilene in 1927 to attend Draughn's Business College. He made his home in Abilene for the past eighty-one years. He worked in the banking business for forty-three years. He was active in the community. He went to the public schools to sell war stamps and bonds during WWII. He was a volunteer for the American Red Cross; he served as an officer for the Optimist International. He was a member of the First Baptist Church for eighty-one years. He was very active in the programs at Sears Methodist Assisted Living. Elgie was an exceptional golfer having made two hole-in-ones during his golfing years. He loved to make people laugh and he was the favorite forty-two player at Sears Methodist Retirement Center. Elgie is preceded in death by his parents Lois his wife and one son. He is survived by one brother Adrian Robbins of Grove Oklahoma; his daughter Jeannine Cooley and husband Ewing of Arlington; one son Robert W. Robbins of Key West Florida; three granddaughters Robbyn Kathryn and Kristyn; great-grandchildren Amy Tim Jenna Kerry Grady Sara Taylor and his wife Merrick; and a special lady friend Bea Salyers.
