Esther Solano Zetina 90 of Abilene,TX passed away Friday December 19, 2025. Funeral services will be held Tuesday December 23, 2025 at 11am at Graham St Iglesia De Cristo 2158 Graham St, Abilene, TX 79603. Visitation will be held at North's Funeral Home Monday from 6-8pm. Esther Solano Zetina was born on October 8, 1935, in Mexico City to Cecilia Rojas Gomez and Asencion Solano González. She passed away peacefully on December 19, 2025, in Abilene, Texas, surrounded by her daughters and family. One of sixteen children, Esther grew up right in the middle of a large and lively family. She was especially close to her father-often described as his shadow. Esther's father served as a colonel in the army. Esther earned her nickname, "La Coronela," for her spirited enthusiasm and strong will, traits that matched her father's values and discipline. As a child, Esther was cheerful and adventurous. She could often be found climbing trees in search of capulines (cherries), caring for her siblings, and bringing joy to those around her. From a young age, she demonstrated a deep sense of responsibility and love for family. In 1946, Esther married David Castaneda Jaramillo in Mexico City. Together they welcomed seven children: Cecilia, Maricela, Juanita, Perla, David, Carlos, and Damian. David was an entrepreneur, working primarily in the restaurant and construction industries. Esther devoted herself to her family as a homemaker, and with the help of her older daughters, ensured her household was filled with care, order, and love. In 1964, her husband, David, passed away in Mexico City. Esther continued raising her children with strength and resilience. She was their first teacher, teaching them sewing, gardening, cooking, and, most importantly, values. She had a special fondness for children and an instinct to nurture. In 1967, Esther remarried Arturo Zetina. Together, they had four children: Arturo, Angel, Blanca, and Alejandra. Esther took great pride in maintaining a clean and orderly home and was always willing to help anyone in need. Esther once dreamed of becoming a nurse so she could care for those injured in war-a reflection of her compassionate heart. In 1990, Esther moved from Mexico City to San Antonio, Texas. She later relocated to Abilene in 1994. In 1995, she was baptized at Graham Street Church of Christ in Abilene, marking an important milestone in her faith. In 2000, she returned to San Antonio, and after more than two decades, came back to Abilene in August 2025. Above all, Esther was a child of God. She often shared with her children that when they were born, an angel was with them. To her final breath, she sang of her victory in Jesus. Esther Solano Zetina will be remembered for her faith, strength, generosity, and unwavering love for her family. Her legacy lives on through the generations of lives she touched. Daughter, Juanita, and her husband, Luis Cardenas, Sr., with six children and 14 grandchildren. Daughter, Perla*, and her husband, Jose Pascual Reyna*, with three children, 11 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Son, David Castaneda, Sr.*, and Rosa, with five children, 11 grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. Son, Carlos Castaneda, Sr.*, with five children, as well as grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Son, Damian Castaneda*, and his wife, Dolores, with three children, eight grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Son, Arturo Zetina*, and his wife, Diana, with two children.
