Eugene John (Gene) Bredeck 77 of Abilene passed away Sunday March 29 2009. Graveside services will be at Elmwood Memorial Park on Friday at 11:00 a.m. with Father Fred Nawarskas officiating under the direction of North's Funeral Home 242 Orange Street. He will receive full military honors.
Mr. Bredeck was born February 24 1932 in Albany Minnesota to John and Tresa Bredeck. He married Marlys Schmidt on August 20 1966 at the Seven Dolores Catholic Church in Albany Minnesota. He retired from the United States Air Force after serving for twenty-three years. He had been employed by Abilene Aero Inc. for thirty-three years retiring in January 2009 because of illness.
He was preceded in death by his father; a son Scott Bredeck; an uncle Leo Stein; his brother Terry of St. Cloud Minnesota brother-in-law Dale Howard and brother-in-law Leslie Schmidt.
He is survived by his beloved wife Marlys; a daughter Debora Williams and husband Michael and granddaughter Maci of Greenville Texas; brother Duane Bredeck and wife Suely and niece Amanda of Albany Minnesota; nephew Jordan who is stationed in Djibouti; brother Roger Bredeck and sons of Albany Minnesota; twin sisters Joanne and husband Jim Marshall and family of Portland Oregon and Diane Howard and family of Spring Creek Nevada; mother Tresa Bredeck an aunt Mayme Stein of Albany Minnesota; sister-in-law Lila and husband Bob Tschida and family of Avon Minnesota; sister-in-law Shirley Schmidt and family of St. Cloud Minnesota; brother-in-law Kenneth and wife Rosie Schmidt and family of Muskegon Michigan.
Mr. Bredeck had many friends who all enjoyed bowling fishing and sports. His favorite pastime was watching the Dallas Cowboys. He also enjoyed his job at Abilene Aero as most of the people he worked with were retired military. He and his friends also enjoyed working around aircraft. He was a Catholic and belonged to the VFW Post 6873.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorials be made in his honor to Intrepid Fallen Heroes 1 Intrepid Square West 46th and 12th Avenue New York NY 10036.
