Louise Oakes Konze 88 of Abilene passed away at her home Friday March 13 2009 after a lengthy illness. Graveside services will be at 10:00 AM on Monday March 16 2009 at Elmwood Memorial Park. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM at the First Central Presbyterian Church with Dr. Cliff Stewart officiating. The arrangements are under the direction of North's Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 2:00 - 4:00 PM on Sunday March 15 2009 at North's Funeral Home 242 Orange Street. Louise was born on August 1 1920 to James Turner and Lora Oakes in Santa Anna Texas. She graduated from the University of Texas with an English degree. She married Charlie F. Konze who predeceased her in 2004 after sixty-two years of marriage. She was devoted to her four children volunteering as a Brownie and Girl Scout Leader as well as a Scout Den Mother. She also taught Sunday School. During her time as an Army wife she was known to volunteer in nursing homes comforting the residents at the Thrift Store and numerous other areas in the military post. She also participated in bowling leagues and golf tournaments. She was a member of the First Central Presbyterian Church where she was active in many women's programs. She is survived by her four children; David Konze and Michael Konze of Columbus GA Martha Weisner of Abilene TX and Kay Herring of El Paso TX; eighteen grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one brother Fred B. Oakes of Abilene. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Food Bank of West Central Texas 5505 North 1st or the Presbyterian Medical Care Mission 302 Medical Drive.
