Francisco Cortez III, 62, of Abilene, Texas, passed away July 21, 2026. He was born on May 2, 1964, in Abilene, Texas, to Francisco Cortez II and Esther Vera Cortez.
Francisco attended Abilene High School and later earned his Certificate of High School Equivalency. A man of strong faith, he was baptized in the Catholic Church on May 10, 1964.
On November 16, 1992, Francisco married the love of his life, Christina Aguirre Cortez, at St. Francis Catholic Church. Together they built a loving family and shared 34 years of marriage.
Francisco dedicated much of his life to serving his community. He worked for the City of Abilene for 29 years and 10 months, where he was recognized for his commitment to safety, earning multiple First Place awards in the Big Country Safety Road-e-o competition. He also served the Abilene Independent School District for 11 years.
Above all, Francisco was a devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle, and friend. He was known for his hardworking nature, dedication to his family, and the kindness he showed to those around him. His legacy will live on through the many lives he touched.
Francisco was preceded in death by his parents, Francisco Cortez II and Esther Vera Cortez.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Christina Aguirre Cortez; his daughter, Sarah Cortez; his sons, Andy (Angel) Cortez, Justin (Tasha) Cortez, Frank (Rebekah) Cortez IV, Ryan Cortez, Gabriel (Allison) Reynoza and Michael (Victoria) Reynoza; his siblings, Chavela (Rufus) Martinez, Lupe Cortez, and Florencio (Rebecca) Cortez; as well as numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
Francisco's memory will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. May he rest in eternal peace.
