Frank Corbett Howard Jr. beloved husband father grandfather and brother went to be with his heavenly Father on February 8 2008 at the age of 89. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday February 12 2008 at North's Memorial Chapel. Interment will be in Fort Sam Houston Veterans Cemetery in San Antonio Texas on Wednesday February 13th. The family will receive friends from 6 - 7:30 p.m. Monday evening at North's Memorial Chapel 242 Orange St. He was born September 14 1918 to Frank Corbett Howard Sr. and Mary Brown Howard in Sapulpa Oklahoma. As a young boy the family moved to Portales New Mexico. He graduated from Portales High School in 1937 and attended Texas Tech University for one semester. He enlisted into the U.S. Army Air Corps in January 1941 where he served in WW II and the Korean Conflict. Some of his most notable tours of duty were in England Puerto Rico and on the South Pacific Island of Kwajalein. Upon his retirement from the U.S. Air Force after twenty-six years he moved to Abilene Texas where he worked another ten years for the Civil Service at Dyess Air Force Base as an Aircraft Maintenance Specialist retiring in September 1980. He met the love of his life the beautiful Aileen Russell and they married April 4 1942 in Roswell New Mexico. The best times of Frank's life were when his children would come to visit. He loved having his family around him whether it was playing games or just sharing memories. He also had a love for his yard and garden. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister Azalea Freeman. He is survived by his wife of 66 years Aileen Howard; four sons Frank Corbett Howard III and wife Sue of Celina Texas Steven L. Howard and wife Candance of New Braunfels Texas Russell K. Howard and wife Mary of Nashville Tennessee and William Scott Howard and wife Mary of Midland Texas. Two daughters; Susan Howard Bowles and husband Tim of Abilene Texas and Diana Howard of Abilene. Thirteen grandchildren; Skipper Blakey Marci Deborah Pamala Kim Nicole Matthew Andy Taylor Audra Amanda and Courtney. Fifteen great-grandchildren; Tori Howie Heather Kaitlin Madison Jessika Tanner Trey Tyler Hunter Carter Jake Claire Addisyn and Caden. One sister; Rosemary Hezmall of Ruidoso New Mexico and two nieces and two nephews. The family would like to thank the nurses at Abilene Regional Hospital for their love care and support during Frank's time in the hospital. A special thanks to the staff of the Hendrick Hospice Unit for the care and comfort they provided to both Frank and the family during this difficult time.
