Gerald (Jerry) Self 73 of Abilene passed away Tuesday May 31 2011. A memorial service honoring his life will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday at North's Funeral Home 242 Orange Street . He will be laid to rest in Midway Cemetery following the memorial service.   Born on January 24 1938 Jerry was raised in the Hawley area and attended Hawley schools. His adult life was spent in Abilene where he worked for US Postal Service for many years. Jerry was an avid hunter and fisherman and greatly enjoyed the outdoors. He also loved music and loved to sing. Jerry made friends easily and always had a new joke for anyone. It has been said of Jerry "He is as honest as the day is long."   He was preceded in death by his parents Lila Newman Self Coats and Ernest Self.   Jerry's death left six children as survivors: Lila Self Moersch and husband Craig and Lisa Self McCameron of St. Louis Rebecca Jean Self Snider and husband Dennis of Arlington Virginia Mark Self and David Self of Belleville Illinois and Joe Self and wife Tracy of Ft.
