+ Gerald Nelson Turnbow, grandpa as he was known to his family, took his last breaths this side of Heaven on April 19th, 2023, with loved ones by his side. Grandpa was born June 16th, 1943, in Lubbock Texas to Edgar Herman Turnbow and Corilla Adelle (Campbell) Turnbow. He was the youngest son of nine children and was affectionately referred to as "my baby boy" by his mama. As a child, grandpa moved with his family to Arizona and back to Texas where he called Rotan home until he joined the United States Army in 1963. While stationed in El Paso, Texas grandpa met the love of his life and the woman we would affectionately call granny, Marilyn Sue Lucy. They continued their relationship through grandpa being stationed in Fairbanks Alaska in 1964 where he witnessed the worst earthquake in the state's history and his deployment to Vietnam in 1965 where he fought alongside many strong and courageous men; some of whom never made it back; mentally or physically. Once back in El Paso, in June 1966, grandpa and granny got married and began what was an almost 50-year long life together filled with children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They welcomed their first child, a son, Gerald (Jerry) in March 1967 in El Paso, Texas and their youngest, a daughter, Donna in December 1970 while stationed in Germany. Once he was discharged from the Army grandpa and his family lived in El Paso, Texas and eventually made their way to Rotan, Texas in the mid 1970's, a place he would call home for almost 40 years until the passing of granny in December of 2013. In Rotan grandpa operated JN Wrecker Service for a decade and JN Welding for over three. His welding work can be found throughout Rotan and surrounding areas, including The Rotan Gin, The National Gypsum Company as well as on the farms and ranches of Fisher County. Grandpa was a jack of all trades; from building model planes to competition style BBQ pits, he did it all. He was well known for the annual garden he planted with the help of his grandchildren, especially his watermelon and peppers. On any given Friday you could find grandpa at Lupita's in Roby having all you could eat catfish. After granny passed grandpa retired and made his home in Potosi, Texas. Grandpa was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife of 47 years Marilyn Sue (Lucy) Turnbow, brothers William (Billy) Adell Turnbow and Doris Allen Turnbow, sisters Avanelle (Joy) Harmon and Patsy Ann Odom, Sisters-in-law Helen, Beverly and Erma Turnbow, Brothers-in-law Donald Glen Odom and David Cummings and close friend and neighbor George Velez. Those left with the memories only our grandpa could leave are his children Jerry Turnbow (Jeri Lyn), Donna Turnbow (Jennifer Forbes), grandchildren Latricia Winegeart, Roseann Seelke (Jeff), Aaron Turnbow (Brittany), Ashley Daniel (Calvin), great-grandchildren Jacob Seelke, Michael Winegeart, Jordan Seelke, Aiden Clark, Cali Daniel, Jaxon Daniel, Benjamin Winegeart, Delanie Williams, Wyatt Turnbow, Aubrey Daniel, and Posie Rae Brazee, sisters Ruthie Peek (Ronnie) and Rebecca (Becky) Cummings, brothers Justin Leon Turnbow (Rickie) and James Shirley Turnbow, long-time partner Earlene Stringer; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Services entrusted to North's Funeral Home of Abilene, Texas.
