Gertrude(Gertie) Ramona Palermo passed peacefully on March 29, 2026. She was 85. Born in Vacaville, California on July 9, 1940, to Joseph and Mary Augustine, Gertie also had a brother, Joseph Michael Augustine. All preceded her in death. She grew up on Hamburg Ranch south of Los Banos and went to local schools. In 1957 she was crowned Los Banos High Schools very first homecoming queen. She always laughed when saying she didn't realize the crown was so expensive until she noticed a man following her from the jewelry store. She had to give it back. She would fondly remember riding in a special float to celebrate Los Banos' Centennial Parade for homecoming royalty. She married her Los Banos High School sweetheart Donald Lee Hansen in 1958 and had 3 children. Together they loved to go hunting, going to Hansen Ranch deer club, racing including getting behind the wheel of her husband's race car, to race in the lady's powder puff races and trying not to faint if he crashed his car. She also loved watching her husband rodeo.
