Gladys Woolsey 100 formerly of Abilene passed away Monday April 13 2009. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday at North's Memorial Chapel 242 Orange Street with Rowland Gregory officiating. The family will receive friends at 10:00 a.m. at North's Chapel. Burial will be at a later time. Gladys was born to John A and Fannie Dee (Chism) Hayward on December 17 1908 in Moran Texas. where she was raised and attended school. She married Worth R. Woolsey and had two children W. R Jr. and Mary Ann. She moved to Abilene in 1946 to live with her sister Katherine Hayward Simpson where she continued to work for SW Bell and retired in management in 1972. Gladys was a long time member of University Baptist Church Abilene Chapter #30 O.E.S. Telephone Pioneers Abilene Bible Club and was honored by the RSVP and the Abilene chapter of AARP as a charter member of both.. She originally lived on Grape Street then later at Sears Heritage prior to moving to Richmond Indiana to be near her daughter. While in Richmond she became known and loved by friends and staff of Friends Fellowship Community. She was preceded in death by W. R. Jr in 1932 and Worth Woolsey in 1946. She is survived by her daughter and husband Mary Ann and Harold Hanes of Richmond Indiana; grandchildren and great grandchildren: Matt and Jeanne C. Hanes Jenna and Stephen of Decatur Georgia Betsy and Jim Perry Ellen and Will niece Carolyn and Perry Orlds of Garland Texas nephew Harold Hall Big Spring grand nephew Howard and Becky Hall of Grapevine Texas (formerly of Abilene). Her close friends Claudette Carroll and DeLora Hitchens. Always kind thoughtful and generous one of her favorite quotes was: "" Our main business is not to see what lies dimly at a distance but to do what lies clearly at hand."" She was a friend to many and loved each of them in her individual way.
