Gloria Araujo, age 57 peacefully passed from this earthly life to her heavenly reward in the early morning hours of Palm Sunday. She was born in Abilene Texas on May 3, 1964, the daughter of Jesus Prado Ramon, Sr. of Abilene and Maria Ponce Ramon of San Angelo, Tx. Raised in a small Spanish Neighborhood affectionately known as "Barrio Sancudo", she was the sixth child in a family of nine and was a free and fearless spirit. Born such a big and cute kid, she lovingly earned the nicknames "Baby Huey" and "Big Bird". Easily always one of the biggest kids her age it made her kind of imposing, but she was never a bully. But you did want to make sure that if things went down you were on the same side as her because she was the kid that bullies went home crying to mama about! As she grew older, she settled down into being a very loving mother, sister, aunt and grandmother and she spent most of her adult life making sure her family had everything they needed, and she would sacrifice everything for them. She met Tony Araujo in the early 90's and married in 1996. They had two children Lindsey Nicole and Victoria Michelle. She also helped raise several stepchildren. It's not a stretch to say she could be really salty sometimes, but she was also very loving. And there were plenty of things she loved. Her love for the outdoors was unmatched but she also enjoyed playing bingo in a smoke-filled hall. She could fish all day and then hang out all night enjoying a cold Dos XX. She could chill to some Ramon Ayala or Jeremy Camp and jam to some Lynyrd Skynyrd or Chris Cornell. She loved her Pittsburgh Steelers and hated the Dallas Cowboys. She could ski down a mountain during the day and pull handles on slot machines all night. She was never not down for a road trip with her hair in the wind and the music blaring. She loved cruising early mornings on the weekends to go have coffee with whoever was up and then talk 'til the bonfire fire had burned out at night. If there was ever anybody whose "yes" was a yes and whose "no'' was a no it was her. She was not one to mince words, but she also loved having good conversations. Her personality was beautiful and positive, always finding the silver lining in every cloud and the good in every soul. It was those qualities that gave her the strength and tenacity to fight the good fight for eight years against the cancer that raged against her. In her there was no quit. She is already desperately missed, and her passing will leave an enormous void in our everyday lives. But our faith leaves us a hope that we will meet again…and that hope does not die. She is survived by her husband Tony, her two children Lindsey and Victoria. Four sisters, Sylvia, Julie, Angie all of Abilene and Tina Venegas (Tomas) of Plano. Three brothers, Frank Ramon, Daniel Ramon and Jesus Ramon, Jr. (Connie) all of Abilene. Six stepchildren, John Anthony Araujo, Antonia Stokes, Angie Roberts, Elaine Pedrosa, Melissa Araujo. 13 Grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her oldest sister Jessica Trevino and stepson David Rene Davila. Visitation and viewing will be Tuesday April 12th at 7:30 in the Chapel of North's Funeral home at 242 Orange St. in Abilene with the rosary following. Funeral Mass will be celebrated by Fr. Bhaskar Morigudi Wednesday April 13th, 10 am at St Francis Catholic Church, 926 Cottonwood St. In Abilene ● Pallbearers are her nephews Max Trevino, Frankie Trevino, Chris Allen Ramon, Tomas Alejandro Venegas, Daniel Ramon, Jesus P.
