Gorin Rutherford, 93, passed away Thursday, December 19, 2013. A graveside service will be held on Monday at 10:00 a.m. at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2-4 p.m. at North's Funeral Home, 242 Orange Street. Gorin was born August 24, 1920 in Amarillo, Texas to Albert F. and Annie Rutherford. After graduating from high school, he attended Amarillo College, worked in a bank, and then enlisted in the United States Marine Corp. He served in World War II and was wounded on Iwo Jima. He returned home to his wife, Dorthea, and attended Abilene Christian University and served as a fulltime minister of the gospel in Churches of Christ over thirty years. He received a Masters in Speech and Hearing from Missouri University and worked for the Neurological Institute in Topeka, Kansas and for the State of Kansas Department of Health. He became a consultant in Amarillo and later on in Abilene in speech audiology as a private consultant. Upon full retirement, Gorin continued to volunteer as needed through the church and community. Gorin was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothea, mother of June, Jane, and Mike, and wives, Cleta and Pam; son, Michael Lee; and grandson, David Michael Parker. He is survived by his daughters, Jane Parker of Florida, June McIntosh and husband, Jerry, of Missouri; grandsons: Daniel Parker and wife, Jill, of Florida, Jon McIntosh and wife, Jessica of New York; three great-grandchildren: Aidan, Gus, and Arwen Guen of Florida; his brother, Roy M. Rutherford and wife, Marianne, along with numerous cousins, other relatives and friends.
