Helga Kirkpatrick 85, of Abilene, TX passed away Monday June 17, 2024. Funeral services will be held Saturday June 22, 2024 at 11am at Elmwood West Methodist Church. Visitation will be held Friday June 20th from 6-8pm at North's Funeral Home.
Helga, known as Peggy, was born in Frankfurt, Germany on Krystal Nacht on November 10, 1938. She survived World War II. She immigrated alone to Greensville, SC, United States in 1956. She met Weyman S. Kirkpatrick at the USO and they fell in love. They were married for 62 years.
She was a devoted wife, exceptional mother and mother-in-law, the grandma of delight, and extraordinary volunteer for many organizations like the American Red Cross, various churches, the Retired Military Spouses Club, local elementary schools and Eastern Star. She held a few jobs along the way and she enjoyed supporting the arts and zoo in town, meeting with friends and had a lifelong love of learning and challenging herself to be a Godly woman. She was generous to others to a fault.
In lieu of gifts and flowers, please donate in her name to Elmwood West Methodist Church and/or to the Abilene Zoo.
Helga is survived by her 4 daughters: Cathy, Mary , Lori, and Monica; 7 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. There are three German nieces and their families that she also maintained a close relationship with. She taught us all that staying in touch with one another was the important thing and that love can sustain you through anything life throws at you. She loved sharing the gospel with anyone she met.
