Herman L. Niehaus Jr of Abilene passed away Sunday, February 20, 2022. Funeral Services will be held Friday, February 25, 2022 at 11am at North's Funeral Home Chapel, with burial to follow at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday from 10-11am at North's Funeral Home Chapel. Herman was born May 19th 1932 in Teaneck, NJ. to Alice Vollmar and Herman Ludwig Niehaus Sr. Herman received his primary education from Bogota Schools. He met and married the love of his life Virginia Blauvelt March 8, 1952, and they spent 69 loving years together prior to her passing December 25, 2021. Herman completed 20 years active-duty service in USAF and retired TSGT. He served in Vietnam and Guam. Herman and Virginia served at various duty stations eventually retiring in Abilene October 31, 1972. After retirement from active-duty Herman had a second career for 20+ years as a Mopar mechanic. Herman enjoyed his hobbies with remote control airplanes and classic Mopar cars and trucks. He enjoyed the local circle racetrack and drag strip. Herman was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years Virginia; parents Alice Vollmar and Herman L. Niehaus Sr; and sisters Lois Templin and Dorathea Meloy. Left to cherish his memories are: Children: Roger Niehaus and wife Ginger of Abilene, Texas, Janet Niehaus of Wall, South Dakota, Debbie Katona and husband Rick of Cibolo, Texas, Craig Niehaus of Arlington, Texas. 8 grandchildren: Mystal, Dustin, Nicholus, Brandon, Alexis, Nathan, Macie, Ryan, and great-grandchildren: Kamry, Hailee, Hudson, Garrett, Peyton, Taylor Pallbearers will be Dustin Black, Nicholus Niehaus, Brandon Adkins, Nathan Niehaus, Ryan Niehaus, and Case Jackson.
