Ida Berry, age 86, has gone to be with the Lord. Ida, lovingly known as Maga, passed peacefully at home surrounded by her family and loved ones February 7, 2026. Ida, born to William and Leona Poston in Arkansas, was the youngest of 6. She loved her time with her 3 sisters and 2 brothers. By the time Ida was ready for high school, she had moved to Hobbs, NM where she lived with her sister, Lucy, and met her husband and father to her three boys, Bill McCabe Thomason. Bill and Ida married in 1958 and the family grew quickly. It wasn't until after several exciting years of living in California that they settled on a life in Abilene, TX. Ida was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, her husband, Bill, second husband, Vernie Berry (married 1989), and great grandchildren. Ida leaves behind her sons and daughters-in-law; Bill and Kim Thomason of Abilene, TX, Tommy and Nancy Thomason of Abilene,TX, and Doyle and LeeAnn Thomason of Austin, TX. She also leaves behind five grandchildren; Adaline Thomason, Amber Lynn (Jesse) McClure, Kimbra (Zach) Zell, Rose (Kacy) Price, Samantha (Christopher) Danielson; 15 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren. Ida was a devoted mother and grandmother. Ida was always proud of her three sons. Photos of them were hung with love and care and displayed around the house. She adored her granddaughters, always excited to sew, crochet, bake, make candy, and play with them when given the opportunity. Ida also kept active for many years with her beloved pug, Sandy. Ida enjoyed her time fishing, gardening, and visiting estate sales. Her collection of bird houses, ducks, and sunflower art were displayed with love around family photos in her home. She and Vern spent many days fishing out on Hubbard Creek Lake. She enjoyed getting dressed up and singing songs of worship and praise in her last few years while attending Elmdale Baptist Church. The family would also like to thank Alpha Omega Hospice, who gave love and care beyond measure in her last days. Viewing will be held at North's Funeral Home in Abilene, TX on Tuesday, February 17, 2026 from 5-7pm. Ida will be deeply missed and remembered by all who knew her. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made in Ida's memory to either the Alzheimer's Association or Elmdale Baptist Church.
