Irene Laverne Allen Jennings 87, passed away Wednesday October 7, 2015. A Graveside service is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Saturday in Pioneer Cemetery with Burt Williams officiating, under the direction of North's Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Friday evening in North's Memorial Chapel, 242 Orange St.
Ms. Jennings was born July 25, 1928 in Pioneer, Texas to Jesse and Lillie (Perkins) Fenwick. Ms. Jennings was known to many as just "Big Momma" or "Sally". Throughout her life, she was a caregiver. She worked as a cashier at the Super Duper store on Sayles Blvd. where she retired in 1983. Since then she has enjoyed being at home around her family and friends. She was a member of the College Avenue Baptist Church in McGregor, Texas before moving back to Abilene. She will be dearly missed by all.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Floyd Allen, Jr. and her second husband Bill Jennings. Her parents, five brothers and sisters.
She is survived by: Three daughters, Brenda Bartlett and husband Jerry, Sherry Gann and husband Larry and Charlotte Ferguson. Seven grandchildren; Cherry Kay Allen Stanton and husband Bobby of Lorena, Texas, Skipper Gann, Allen Gann and wife Tiffany and Nathan Gann all of Abilene, Jr. Ferguson and wife Cindy of Lipan, Texas, Jerry Jr. and Melody Bartlett. Five great-grandchildren, Lance, Kevin, Braydon, Lacee and Braxton.
The family wishes to give Hospice of the Big Country and Northern Oaks Rehabilitative Center a special thank you for our beloved Mother's excellent care.
