James William Bonefas Sr. age 63 died August 29 2010 at his home in Abilene Texas. A Memorial Service will be Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at North's Memorial Chapel 242 Orange Street with Father Terry officiating.
Mr. Bonefas was born in Independence Iowa on February 15 1947 to William and June Temeyer Bonefas. He attended school in Jesup Iowa. After graduating in 1965 he joined the Air Force. He was stationed at Dyess where he met his future wife Mary Lou Goodrich in 1967 on Valentine's Day. They met on a blind date and were married on August 24 1967 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He was sent to Thailand on December 13 1967 for one year. He was in the Air Force for 8 years as an air traffic controller. Then he joined the FAA as a Civil Servant in Air Traffic Control. In 1981 he took up the carpenter trade. He worked for several cabinet shops in town before forming his own business known as J.B. Contracting. He worked for several builders and won accolades for his beautiful trim work. He loved his job and all the people he worked with. He never met a stranger and was always upbeat and smiling. It was a joy to know him. He enjoyed watching football and basketball. He was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys and the Dallas Mavericks.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Paul Bonefas.
He is survived by his wife Mary of Abilene two sons John Bonefas of Abilene and James Bonefas Jr. of Dallas Texas. He is also survived by four sisters Mary Besler and husband Ron of Boone Iowa Wanda Childress and husband Arvel of Independence Iowa Virginia Doan and husband Steve of Independence Iowa Sue Butler and husband Art of Burleson Iowa and seven brothers Dick Bonefas of Sumner Iowa Dan Bonefas and wife Norma of Independence Iowa Billy Bonefas of San Antonio Texas Steve Bonefas of Independence Iowa Ed Bonefas and wife Nancy of Shenandoah Iowa Tony Bonefas of Waterloo Iowa Ken Bonefas and wife Terry of Griswold Connecticut.
